The SC Bayer 05 Uerdingen is (as of 2018) with over 6,000 members one of the largest sports clubs in the city of Krefeld . The club emerged from FC Bayer 05 Uerdingen , which was dissolved in 1995 and whose football department is now known as KFC Uerdingen 05 . He maintains 15 sports.

history

The original club is FC Uerdingen 05, which was founded on November 17, 1905 in the Krefeld district of Uerdingen as a pure football club. In the 1950s, Bayer AG's company sports group in Uerdingen joined FC Uerdingen 05. From then on they were called FC Bayer 05 Uerdingen. Further departments were added over the years.

In 1995 Bayer AG announced the withdrawal from sponsorship of the Bundesliga soccer team Bayer Uerdingen. As the legal successor to FC Bayer 05 Uerdingen, the football department has since been called KFC Uerdingen 05 ; the rest of the club has been called SC Bayer 05 Uerdingen since 1995.

Soccer

SC Bayer 05 has its own football department. The first team has been playing in the district league B since it was promoted in 2015. The women's team plays in the district league. Since the 1st MSC Strandkaiser Krefeld joined on August 1, 2011, Bayer Uerdingen also has a futsal team . She finished fourth at the 2006 DFB Futsal Cup and reached the semi-finals in 2013 . The final was just missed after a 4-5 defeat against the Hamburg Panthers . In 2017 the team was relegated from the first-class Futsalliga West . With Timo Heinze, the Uerdinger produced a future German national player.

athletics

The athletics department was established in 1909 in FC Uerdingen 05. This makes it the oldest department from the original club in SC Bayer 05. The athletics department played an important role throughout Germany. With the decathletes Jürgen Hingsen , Dennis Leyckes and Michael Schrader , this department has so far provided three Olympic participants.

Handball

The club's handball department was founded in April 1925 as "DJK TuS Rheinfranken 1925 Uerdingen". On June 1, 1966, the club joined FC Bayer 05 Uerdingen. The first men's team played in the third division West season in the 2011/12 season. After the 2012/13 season , Uerdingen and Adler Königshof formed the HSG Krefeld syndicate . However, SC Bayer 05 still has its own handball department. Both men and women compete in teams in the national league. For the 2016/17 season, two youth teams qualified for the Regionalliga Nordrhein for the first time.

badminton

The badminton department became German team champion in 1993, 1994 and 1995 as FC Bayer 05 Uerdingen, and in 1998, 2002 and 2003 as SC Bayer 05 Uerdingen. The first team had to withdraw from the House of Lords after financial cuts at Bayer AG in 2003. In the following period, the team rose to the fourth division. In the 2008/2009 season, the team managed to return to the regional league. In the 2011/2012 season, four senior teams will take part in championship games.

Triathlon

The triathlon department of SC Bayer 05 is represented by teams in the 2nd Bundesliga , the NRW-Liga, the Regionalliga, the Oberliga, the Landesliga, the Seniorenliga and the Mastersliga. For women, teams in the NRW League and the Regionalliga are at the start. Well-known athletes of SC Bayer 05 are Olaf Sabatschus , Oliver Strankmann , Stephan Bergermann , Matthias Epping, Uwe Röpstorf and Anna Pauline Saßerath .

Table tennis

The table tennis department was founded in 1953. The men played in the Regionalliga West in the 2011/2012 season. The women's team rose to the Bundesliga in the late 1980s . At the end of the 2004/05 season she went back to the 2nd Bundesliga for financial reasons. In the 2012/13 season the team plays in the fourth-class league.

basketball

In 1952, KEV's Latvian ice hockey players founded a basketball department. As the number of players increased, in 1960 this became the basketball department of the Post Sport Verein Krefeld. In 1982 the basketball department went into business for itself as the Krefeld Basketball Club (BBC). This club existed until 1998, when they joined the SC Bayer Uerdingen as a basketball department.

tennis

In 2005 the tennis club "Uerdinger TC Bayer 1900" with its over 200 members joined SC Bayer as the 1900 tennis department.

American football

In 2009 the former youth team of the Krefeld Chiefs was accepted into the club and renamed itself to "Uerdingen Tomahawks". The U19 team was undefeated for exactly 3 years between 2010 and 2012 and was promoted to the next higher division every year until 2013. In 2013 they just failed to get promoted to the Bundesliga. After the 2014 season, the team disbanded.

canoe

The Canoe Sports Club Bayer Uerdingen has been part of the SC as a department since 2013 . With the transition, the SC got its first water sports department.
