Olaf Sabatschus (born June 2, 1971 in Cologne ) is a former German duathlete and triathlete . He is German duathlon champion (1992), vice world champion in the long distance duathlon (1995) and he is included in the best list of German triathletes on the Ironman distance .

Career

After a few years of modern pentathlon and swimming, Olaf Sabatschus started his first triathlon in 1987 at the age of 17 in Kerpen. His twin brother Ingo Sabatschus is also active as a triathlete. In 1992 he started the long distance in Roth for the first time and he was active as a triathlon professional since 1992.

In September 1995 he finished second at the Duathlon World Championship over the long distance in Zofingen , Switzerland.

Cancer 2006

The father of two, Sabatschus, was diagnosed with testicular cancer in November 2006 . Olaf Sabatschus was able to win the fight against the tumor and celebrated his comeback in May 2007 with seventh place in Florianópolis at the Ironman Brazil .

Ironman winner 2008

In 2008 he won the Ironman China . In July 2009 he declared his professional career over after the Challenge Roth .

Olaf Sabatschus organizes training camps and supports athletes with training planning. Since June 2012 he has been employed as sports director on Fuerteventura.
