The Ironman China was an annual triathlon event from 2008 to 2010 over the Ironman distance (3.86 km swimming, 180.2 km cycling, 42.195 km running) in Jixian, China .
organization
The Ironman China was part of the Ironman World Series of the World Triathlon Corporation and the participants had the opportunity to qualify here for one of the 50 starting places assigned here for the Ironman Hawaii .
The three events were in Haikou , China, in Hainan Province . Haikou is an island in the South China Sea about an hour's flight from Hong Kong .
The first two events were in April, and since 2010 the date has been moved to March. Better weather conditions were expected and clashes with the Boao Forum , which otherwise takes place at the same time in April - a high-level meeting of political, economic and academic leaders - could be avoided.
The date and the venue were changed again for 2011: The competition was to take place on May 29, 2011 on the new track in Jixian . After it was first announced that the Ironman 2011 will be held without the swimming distance due to weather conditions, it was announced in May that it would not be held in 2011.
Route
- The swim stretched over two laps in the sea, with a short shore leave in between.
- The bike course also ran over two laps, included a shorter climb and was otherwise largely flat.
- The running route consisted of one lap and, with the exception of a bridge that had to be crossed, was also very flat and largely in the shade.
