The Ironman Kazakhstan is a triathlon planned for the first time for August 23, 2020 in Nur-Sultan ( Kazakhstan ) over the Ironman distance (3.86 km swimming, 180.2 km cycling and 42.195 km running).

The "Ironman Kazakhstan" is part of the Ironman world series of the World Triathlon Corporation (WTC), a subsidiary of the US media company Advance Publications .

Nur-Sultan is the capital of Kazakhstan. It is located in the northern part of the country in the middle of the Kazakh steppe . Amateurs have the opportunity here in Nur-Sultan to qualify for a starting place at the Ironman Hawaii , for which 30 qualification places are available. Professional triathletes competing for the US $ 40,000 prize money can qualify for the US $ 650,000 competition in Hawaii via the Kona Pro Ranking System (KPR). In Nur-Sultan, the winner and winner will each receive 2000 points, and those placed will receive a correspondingly reduced number of points.
For comparison: the winner in Hawaii receives 8,000 points, the winners in Frankfurt , Texas , Florianópolis , Cairns and Port Elizabeth each receive 4,000, and in the other Ironman races either 1,000 or 2,000 points.

First edition 2020

In April 2020, as part of the spread of the coronavirus, the period for qualifying for Ironman Hawaii was extended to August 30th and with this change, in addition to the qualification places for the Ironman World Championships 2021, the first edition on August 23rd will now also be available here 60 starting places for the Ironman World Championships on October 10, 2020.
