The Ironman Fortaleza is a former triathlon sports event that takes place in November over the Ironman distance (3.86 km swimming, 180.2 km cycling and 42.195 km running).

organization

The organizer of this triathlon in Fortaleza in the northeast of Brazil was Latin Sports , based in São Paulo, which also organizes the Ironman Brasil Florianópolis , the Ironman 70.3 Brasil in Brasilia (until 2015) as well as the Ironman 70.3 Palmas (from 2016) and the Ironman 70.3 Brazil- Paraguay on Itaipú , Ironman 70.3 Rio de Janeiro are. A total of around 80 triathlon, cycling and running events are organized by Latin Sports .

For the use of the Ironman trademark, Latin Sports pays license fees to the owner of the trademark rights, WTC , a subsidiary of the Chinese Dalian Wanda Group. In Europe and North America, on the other hand, the majority of events under the WTC trademark are organized directly by the WTC.

In November 2014, the year it was held for the first time, $ 75,000 in prize money was distributed here. In 2015, the Ironman Fortaleza was a purely amateur race, no prize money was distributed, nor were points awarded to professional triathletes for qualifying for the Ironman Hawaii .

Amateurs have the opportunity to qualify at Iracema Beach , a popular Brazilian holiday region, as early as November for one of forty starting places assigned to the Ironman Hawaii of the following year. In 2015, US $ 960 (including service fee, plus travel expenses and accommodation) had to be paid per starting place for the Ironman Hawaii. In 2014, fifty starting places were offered for the Ironman Hawaii. In the last two events in 2015 and 2016 there were no professional athletes at the start and the race was not extended for 2017.
