The Ironman Haugesund is an annual triathlon - sporting event in Haugesund on the southwest coast of Norway on the Ironman as distance (3.86 km swim, 180.2 km cycling and 42.195 km running).

The Ironman Haugesund is part of the Ironman world series of the World Triathlon Corporation (WTC), a subsidiary of the Chinese Wanda Group .
It was the 39th race in the Ironman racing series, the first Ironman event over the long distance in Norway and was held for the first time on July 1, 2018. Since 2012 there has also been the Ironman 70.3 Norway in the middle distance (1.9 km swimming, 90 km cycling and 21.1 km running).

In Haugesund, amateurs have the opportunity to qualify for a starting place at the Ironman Hawaii , for which 40 qualification places are available. Professional triathletes competing for the US $ 40,000 prize money can qualify for the US $ 650,000 competition in Hawaii via the Kona Pro Ranking System (KPR). In Haugesund, the winners will each receive 2,000 points and those who placed further receive a correspondingly reduced number of points.
For comparison: the winner in Hawaii receives 8,000 points, the winners in Frankfurt , Texas , Florianópolis , Cairns and Port Elizabeth each receive 4,000, and in the other Ironman races either 1,000 or 2,000 points.

The starting field for the first edition in July 2018 was limited to 2000 athletes.

Route

  • The swim goes for a swim in Skeisvatnet , a lake at Haugesund.
  • The cycle route goes over one lap first in the north and then after about 70 km again through Haugesund in the south and then back to Haugesund.
  • The marathon distance is a four-time circular course.
