Swimming start at Ironman Wales 2011 on Tenby's North Beach

At the first event on September 11, 2011, there were almost 1300 athletes at the start. Amateurs at Ironman Wales can qualify for the Ironman Hawaii (Ironman World Championships) of the following year, which is also organized by the WTC, over forty qualification places distributed among the individual age groups .
For professional triathletes who can qualify for Hawaii via the Kona Pro Ranking System , a total of 25,000 US dollars in prize money is announced here.

Routing

  • The swimming distance is in Carmarthen Bay on Tenby Town Beach . The athletes swim two laps on a 1.9 km circuit with shore leave after the first lap.
  • The undulating bike course with 1530 hm goes over a loop through the area of ​​Pembrokeshire and ends again at its starting point.
  • From there the marathon distance goes over four laps on a 10.5 km course through the town of Tenby and the northern environs.
