Michael Göhner (born June 13, 1980 in Reutlingen ) is a German triathlete . He mainly starts in long distance competitions and is included in the best list of German triathletes on the Ironman distance .

Career

Michael Göhner graduated from high school in 1999 with a high school diploma and then completed an apprenticeship as a banker and financial planner. He began his sporting career in 1996 as a middle and long-distance runner and has been participating in triathlons since 2003.

Göhner was already able to achieve a German championship title in the endurance segment - he won the road running championship in 1997 in the male B youth. In this competition he came second in 1999 and third in 2000 and 2002. He was also able to prove his qualities in the marathon , for example in 2001 he completed the Berlin Marathon in 2:23:35 hours. He was also looked after by the nutritionist [[Wolfgang Feil (nutritionist) <Wolfgang Feil]].

2004 Ironman Hawaii winner, age group M18–24

From 2004 Göhner turned increasingly to the duathlon and triathlon. As the winner in his age group (M18-24) of the Ironman Switzerland Zurich, he qualified for the Ironman Hawaii and became world champion in his age group.
At the Challenge Roth in 2005 he achieved a significant improvement in his best time to 8:21:34 h and he started again in Hawaii, where he was third in the M25-29 age group.

Professional triathlete since 2006

He has been a professional triathlete since 2006 and competes for TSG Reutlingen . He achieved numerous victories at smaller events, such as his first of six victories over the Olympic distance at the headquarters of his main sponsor at the Erding city triathlon and at a middle distance race in Datteln . At Ironman Germany 2006 in Frankfurt he qualified for Hawaii with a fifth place, where he finished 34th. That year he also became German Duathlon Champion.

In the following year he was able to improve his performance again and with the victory in the Ironman 70.3 in St. Pölten recorded his greatest success to date.

German champion winter triathlon 2007

Already in winter he had indicated his possibilities by winning the title at the German Winter Triathlon Championships. Finally, it was enough to set a new best time in second place in Frankfurt am Main , when he crossed the finish line after 8:11:50 h. At the competition in Hawaii he was fourth-best German in 8:43:55 h.

The competition year 2008 was less successful. In addition to a few top ten placements, he had to give up at Ironman Hawaii due to an injury.
In July 2009 he achieved his first victory over the long distance at Challenge Roth (3.86 km swimming, 180.2 km cycling and 42.195 km running) and a new personal best with a time of less than eight hours.

In February 2014 he became German champion in the winter triathlon for the fourth time. Michael Göhner has been working for LG Steinlach since 2014 . In 2017 he started again after a three-year injury break. In February 2019, the 38-year-old was runner-up in Italy's winter triathlon in the 35-39 age group.

Michael Göhner lives in Reutlingen-Altenburg. He is married and has three children.
