Frederic Funk (born August 9, 1997 in Munich ) is a German triathlete . He is junior triathlon champion (2016) and German champion in the triathlon middle distance (2018).
Career
At the age of five, Frederic Funk took third place in his first triathlon in the “Junior Challenge” as part of Challenge Roth .
In 2012 he became German Vice-Champion in Youth B, in 2014 German Vice-Champion in Youth A and overall winner of the Deutschland Cup. Since 2013 he has been a member of the DTU D / C management team . On August 2, 2015, the 17-year-old was third behind Michael Raelert and Horst Reichel in the Frankfurt City Triathlon .
German junior champion triathlon 2016
Frederic Funk celebrated his first German championship title in Nuremberg in 2016. He started on September 16, 2016 at the Triathlon Junior World Championship in Cozumel / Mexico and finished 25th as the second-best German. Funk has been part of the Triathlon Bundesliga for the Kiwami Tri Team Grassau since the 2016 season . In 2016 and 2017, Funk became Hungarian champions with the “Tiszaújvárosi Triatlon Club”.
In March 2017, Funk celebrated his elite debut in the national team at the Europa Cup race on Gran Canaria . In June, 19-year-old Frederic Funk won the Rothsee Triathlon with a new course record as the youngest ever winner .
German champion triathlon middle distance 2018
In June 2018, the then 20-year-old became German champion in the triathlon middle distance in Ingolstadt.
After a third and a second place in the previous year, he won the Frankfurt City Triathlon on the Olympic distance in August 2018 . Frederic Funk Triathlete will start the 2019 season for the Erdinger Non-Alcoholic Junior Team .
In October 2019 Frederic Funk won the Ironman 70.3 Lanzarote at his second start in an Ironman 70.3 (1.9 km swimming, 90 km cycling and 21.1 km running) .
Private
Frederic Funk is the oldest son of the two former professional triathletes Heike Funk and Harald Funk. His father was Vice President of the Bavarian Triathlon Association from 2012 to 2016. Funk studies business informatics at the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität and lives in Nuremberg .
