The Ironman 70.3 Lanzarote is a triathlon sport event over the middle distance (1.9 km swimming, 90 km cycling and 21.1 km running) that has been taking place on the Spanish island of Lanzarote since 2012 .

Ironman 70.3 is a protected trademark of the Chinese Dalian Wanda Group or its subsidiary WTC , which originally awarded its use to independent organizers in return for payment of license fees and has increasingly also been an organizer itself since 2009.

organization

Ironman 70.3 Lanzarote was the eleventh race within the European Tour and was held for the first time on November 10, 2012 (official spelling: Club La Santa Ironman 70.3 Lanzarote).

For the 2017 event, the bike course was changed to enable faster times: Instead of the long loop over the Tabayesco Valley and the Mirador del Haria, it is now on a turning point course towards the center of the island. On the new course 1000 meters in altitude have to be overcome and the old bike route was almost 1800 meters in altitude.

For the 2019 event, the venue was relocated from La Santa in the north of the island to Playa Blanca in the south and the race was carried out on a completely new course. However, due to adverse conditions, they had to forego swimming for a short time.
