Ronnie Schildknecht (born September 19, 1979 in Saturdayern ) is a Swiss duathlete and triathlete . He is a multiple Swiss Duathlon champion, multiple Ironman winner (between 2007 and 2016) and is the leader in the list of Swiss triathletes on the Ironman distance .

Career

Ronnie Schildknecht has been practicing triathlons since 2000. To date (2016) he has won the Ironman Switzerland in Zurich nine times in the long-distance triathlon (3.86 km swimming, 180.2 km cycling and 42.195 km running) . Only in 2014 was he unable to win.
He also won the half-distance at Ironman 70.3 Switzerland in Rapperswil-Jona three times in a row from 2007 to 2009. Since 2002 he started for the EWZ Power Team .

Vice-World Champion Duathlon Long Distance 2007

In 2007, Ronnie Schildknecht was runner-up in the duathlon long distance behind the Belgian Benny Vansteelant in the Netherlands . In October 2008 he was the best Swiss fourth at the Ironman Hawaii (Ironman World Championships). In 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013 he became Swiss Duathlon Champion.

Fastest Swiss on the Ironman distance 2011

In November 2011, he achieved a time of less than eight hours at the Ironman Florida, thus improving the course record and thus setting a new best time over the Ironman distance in North America, which the US-American Matt Hanson cannot beat again until 2017 .
In July 2013, with his victory in Zurich, he became the first triathlete to win an Ironman seven times in a row.

Ironman European Championship 2014

In July 2014 he finished fourth at the Ironman European Championships in Frankfurt am Main.

At Ironman Texas, he finished third in May 2015. In June he was sixth in the ITU World Championship on the long distance in Sweden. On July 24, 2016, he won the Ironman in Zurich for the ninth time - and was the first athlete to achieve so many victories in a single race. Ronnie Schildknecht started for the BMC Vifit Pro Triathlon Team until 2018 .

With his second place at Ironman Texas in April 2017, he was able to improve the fastest time of a Swiss athlete on the Ironman distance to 7:56:21 h. In 2018, the then 39-year-old competed in the Ironman Hawaii for the eleventh time, but could not finish the race.

Private

Ronnie Schildknecht is the grandson of racing cyclist Fritz Schär . He lives in Saturdayern with his wife and daughter .
