Swiss Triathlon is the Swiss Triathlon Association based in Ittigen in the Canton of Bern .

The Swiss Association was founded in 1985. Marc Biver was president of the association from 2009 and in spring 2013 this office was taken over by Patrick Schmid . Swiss Triathlon is a member of the Swiss Olympic Association .

The association has six commissions that oversee different areas:

• Elite selection committee
• Young Talent Selection Committee
• Swiss Triathlon Circuit license commission
• Long Distance License Commission
• Training committee
• Duathlon Commission

At the Triathlon World Championships 2010, 25 athletes from Switzerland started and won one gold, two silver and one bronze medals.

In March 2014, Christoph Mauch became sports director at the national triathlon association. He left the association at his own request after the Olympic Games in Rio at the end of October 2016 and the management of the sports department was taken over by the previous head of competitive sports, François Willen .

In December 2016, Ronnie Schildknecht succeeded Simon Luder , who had resigned for health reasons, as “Head of Competitive Sports Swiss Duathlon” . In December 2017, the then 28-year-old Sami Götz took over from Schildknecht at “Swiss Duathlon”, who left this position at the end of 2017.

In May 2018 Michael Kumli succeeded Oliver Imfeld as Managing Director of Swiss Triathlon. Since November 2019, Nicolas Montavon has been working as a trainer for the promotion of young squad athletes.

In January 2020 the New Zealander Cameron Lamont was appointed as the new responsible for competitive sport duathlon. Mattia Gyöngy has been Managing Director of Swiss Triathlon since April 1, 2020.

Swiss Triathlon Award

Every year, Swiss Triathlon athletes are honored as “Triathlete of the Year” for their performance at the end of the year as part of the “Swiss Triathlon Award Night”. The vote is made by a jury of experts, whose votes counted 40 percent, the presidents of the member clubs of Swiss Triathlon (40 percent) and online through the votes of the public (20 percent).

Mixed team relay triathlon

The Swiss championships in the mixed team were held for the first time in Bern in 2011 , a team consists of two women and two men, each of whom completes a triathlon in direct succession. The distances (to be completed a total of four times) vary depending on the local conditions between 250 and 300 m swimming, 5 to 8 km cycling and 1.5 to 2 km running.

This racing format has also been included in the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics program.

Cross triathlon

Since February 2017 Renata Bucher (three-time European cross triathlon champion) has been the new person in charge of the cross triathlon squad.

The Swiss cross triathlon champions are determined annually as part of the Xterra Switzerland in Les Charbonnières . The national championships are held over 1.5 km swimming, 27 km mountain biking and 10 km running:
