Roy Hinnen (born August 18, 1966 in Triengen , Lucerne ) is a former Swiss triathlete . He is included in the list of Swiss triathletes on the Ironman distance .

Career

Roy Hinnen had his first sporting successes as a tennis player and roller skate racer and later belonged to the national elite as a triathlete.

He competed in the first triathlon in 1984 ( Swiss Triathlon in Zurich). He began his triathlon career in 1986 in the USA. In 1987 he was the first triathlete to bring the triathlon aero attachment (see triathlon bike ) to Europe, where he was Swiss triathlon champion for four years in a row from 1987 to 1990. In 1990 he was fifth at the Middle Distance European Championships in Trier, Germany and ended his triathlon career in 1992 with fourth place in the World Cup race in St. Croix, USA.

After his sporting career, he founded Roy Hinnen GmbH in 1995 and Hinnen Coaching trading companies in 2007 (import & export of sports equipment). Later he added his own bicycle and neoprene brand, "Roy Hinnen Bikes" or "Roy Hinnen Neoprene Suits". As an entrepreneur, he sold his products as an importer to specialist retailers and directly through his tri-shop. In 2012 he sold his tridome GmbH, founded in 2009, and ended his import and export activities.

In October 2014 he finished sixth at the European Triathlon Championships in the middle distance in the 45-49 age group.

Private

Hinnen lived as a vegetarian from 1974 to 2012, has been a vegan since 2012 and practices Zen Buddhism. Roy Hinnen lives in Davos with his partner and a son . He works as a sports coach in Zug and in his private life he also works as an author and stonemason.
