Ruedi Wild (born April 3, 1982 in Richterswil ) is a Swiss duathlete and triathlete . He is U23 European champion (2005), multiple Swiss champion (2011–2015), Olympian (2012) and reigning runner-up in the long-distance triathlon (2018). He is included in the list of Swiss triathletes on the Ironman distance .

Career

Ruedi Wild has been a member of the Swiss national triathlon team since 2000 and starts in the Elite B team . He was a member of the Swiss Triathlon Team London 2012 . In 2003 he became U23 vice-European duathlon champion.

U23 European triathlon champion 2005

In 2005 Ruedi Wild became the U23 European Triathlon Champion.

In 2009 and 2010 he became triathlon world champion in the team sprint classification with the Swiss team.

In August 2011 he became vice world champion with the Swiss team in Lausanne and a week later Wild became Swiss triathlon champion on the Olympic distance (1.5 km swimming, 40 km cycling and 10 km running) and he was able to repeat this success in 2012.

2012 Olympic Games

In June 2012 he qualified for the Olympic Games and competed for Switzerland in London with Nicola Spirig , Daniela Ryf and Sven Riederer . He reached the 39th rank.

In August 2013 he won the title of Swiss triathlon champion on the Olympic distance for the third time in a row.

Swiss Champion Duathlon 2014

In Zofingen he became Swiss Duathlon Champion for the second time after 2014 in May 2015 and only a week later he was fourth at the European Championships in the middle distance triathlon. In June he won the Ironman 70.3 Switzerland, after finishing second here the previous year, and he was fourth in the World Triathlon long distance championship in Sweden. In August he came eleventh in the middle distance in the Austrian state of Salzburg at the Ironman 70.3 World Championship as part of the Ironman 70.3 Zell am See-Kaprun .

Long distance triathlon since 2016

In April 2016 he started the Ironman distance for the first time (3.86 km swimming, 180.2 km cycling and 42.195 km running) and finished sixth at the Ironman South Africa . At the Swiss Championships in Rapperswil-Jona in June 2016, with second place in Ironman 70.3 Switzerland, he was able to secure the title in the middle distance (1.9 km swimming, 90 km cycling and 21 km running) and in Italy he could only win a week later also to get the second victory in an Ironman 70.3 race.
In September Ruedi Wild finished third at the Ironman 70.3 World Championships in Australia . In October 2016, Ruedi Wild competed in the Ironman Hawaii (Ironman World Championships) for the first time in October 2016 and finished in 21st place.

In May 2017 he became Swiss Duathlon Champion for the third time in Zofingen and second at Ironman Switzerland in July .

In July 2018, the 36-year-old was runner-up on the ITU long distance world champion in Denmark. At the Ironman World Championships in October, he finished 14th as the best Swiss with a personal best on the Ironman distance in 8:14:31 h.

Ruedi Wild lives in Saturdayern . His son was born in May 2017.
