Career

The son of a French sports teacher and a Swiss woman grew up in the Drôme department in southern France and became a professional triathlon in 1993.

Triathlon World Champion 2000

After becoming world champion in April 2000, he was one of the most popular favorites in the run-up to the 2000 Summer Olympics . At the Olympic race in Sydney (1.5 km swimming, 40 km cycling and 10 km running) he was in the lead after two sub-disciplines, but then fell back to seventh place on the running track. Four years later he finished eighth.

Until 2003 he started for France and since then for Switzerland.

European Cross Triathlon Champion 2007

He later competed in the XTerra category (with a mountain bike instead of a racing bike) and won the silver medal in cross triathlon at the 2004, 2006 and 2007 World Championships.

In 2008 he started the triathlon at the Olympic Games for the third time and finished 19th for Switzerland in Beijing. In August 2011 Marceau became Xterra European Champion for the third time. After the 2014 season he retired from active racing and is now a coach.
