Bevan Docherty , MNZM (born March 29, 1977 in Taupo ) is a former triathlete from New Zealand . He is triathlon world champion (2004), has made two medals at the Olympic Games and is Ironman winner (2013, 2014). He is on the best list of New Zealand triathletes on the Ironman distance .

Career

In 2004 Bevan Docherty became triathlon world champion in Madeira on the Olympic distance (1.5 km swimming, 40 km cycling and 10 km running).

He competed in the 2004, 2008 and 2012 Olympic Games and was able to win a silver and a bronze medal. At the 2008 World Championships in Vancouver, Bevan Docherty was second on the Olympic distance.

In March 2013, when he won the long distance for the first time, he won the Ironman title in New Zealand. Bevan Docherty was trained by Mark Elliot .

In January 2015 he declared his time as a professional athlete over.

Private

His older sister Fiona Docherty (* 1975) was also active in the duathlon and triathlon until 2008: She won the Powerman Zofingen in Switzerland in 2003 and was a runner on the marathon distance for a few years after her triathlon career.
Bevan Docherty lives in Santa Cruz with his wife.
