Timothy (Tim) Don (born January 14, 1978 in Hounslow , London) is a British triathlete and duathlete . He is a three-time Olympic athlete (2000, 2004, 2008), junior world champion triathlon (1998), duathlon world champion (2002), world champion on the short distance triathlon (2006), Ironman winner (2014, 2017) and with 7:40 : 23 h holder of the world's fastest time in an Ironman race . Career

In 1994 Tim Don started his first triathlon. In August 1998 in Lausanne, Switzerland, he became triathlon junior world champion. At the 2000 Summer Olympics, he finished tenth in Australia.

World champion duathlon 2002

In 2002 he became the short-distance duathlon world champion in the United States. In August 2004 he started for the second time at the Summer Olympics and he finished 18th in Athens.

World champion triathlon and doping ban 2006

In 2006 he became world champion in the triathlon in Lausanne on the Olympic distance (1.5 km swimming, 40 km cycling and 10 km running) in the elite class (professional athletes).

After achieving the world title, Tim Don was banned from the British Triathlon Federation for 3 months at the end of 2006 for missing three doping tests within 18 months. According to the rules of the Olympic Association of Great Britain (BOA), Tim Don would have been excluded from participation in the Olympic Games - but after his appointment he was after 2000 (10th place) and 2004 (18th place) after all nominated for the third time to participate in the Olympic Games . He couldn't finish the race in Beijing in August. He was trained by Brett Sutton .

First Ironman start in 2014

In September 2014, he finished third at the Ironman 70.3 World Championship in Canada . At his first start on the Ironman distance (3.86 km swimming, 180.2 km cycling and 42.195 km running) he won the race on Mallorca at the end of September.

At the Ironman Hawaii (Ironman World Championships) in October 2015, he finished 15th. In May 2016 he finished second at the Ironman Brasil .

World best time in an Ironman race in 2017

He has been part of the First Endurance Team since 2017 . In April 2017 he won the first edition of the Ironman 70.3 Liuzhou . At the Ironman Brasil in May, Tim Don set a new world record in an Ironman race with his winning time of 7:40:23 h. In this race he was able to beat the world record by four minutes and his personal best by as much as 24 minutes.

During his bike training in Kona in October 2017, the 39-year-old was hit by a car and seriously injured just three days before the Ironman Hawaii , other sources speak of a truck. As a result of the accident, Don broke his second cervical vertebra and was treated with a halo fixator .

In July 2018, the 40-year-old started the long distance again after his accident and finished ninth in the Ironman Hamburg . Tim Don is trained by Julie Dibens (running) and Matt Bottrill (cycling).

Tim Don lives in Boulder with his wife and two children .
