Matthew (Matt) Brick is a New Zealand orthopedic surgeon and former duathlete and triathlete . Matt Brick was the ITU short-distance duathlon world champion in 1991 and 1992 .

Career

Matt Brick began his triathlon career after completing his medical degree at the age of 24. Just two years after his first triathlon training, he finished second at Ironman New Zealand in 1989 . Due to his weakness in swimming, he increasingly focused on the duathlon. In 1991 and 1992 he became ITU duathlon world champion. An Achilles tendon injury forced him to prematurely end his active sporting career in 1993.

In the following years he remained loyal to the duathlon and triathlon sport as a book author, orthopedist, sports doctor and supervisor of competitive athletes. After his return to active sport, he celebrated a respectable success at Ironman New Zealand in 2003 when he was the second over 40-year-old to complete an Ironman in less than 9 hours.
