River port
A power port is a port that is right on the bank of a river. In the area of the Rhine , the river ports are often referred to as shipyards. Ports on the banks of a canal are called canal ports .
history
The first form of the river port was the Lände , a simple jetty on the bank of a river. Ships were loaded and unloaded there via jetties. Later the first cranes were built to be able to load heavier goods. As the volume of transport increased, the lands were fortified with quay walls , warehouses and mobile loading facilities were built on land, and good transport links to rail and road were established.
