The port of Bonn is a small river port on the Rhine in Bonn , North Rhine-Westphalia .

location

The port is located in the north of Bonn on the Middle Rhine at Rhine kilometer 658 on the left and is surrounded by the Graurheindorf district of Bonn . One kilometer to the north the Sieg flows into the Rhine.

history

In 1907 August Am Zehnhoff founded a trading shipyard at today 's Beethoven Hall. In 1924 the company moved to its present location in Graurheindorf. In World War II, large parts of the port were destroyed. As a result, the Am Zehnhoff-Söns company rebuilt and expanded the port. In 2004 the company founded Bonner Hafenbetriebe GmbH together with Stadtwerke Bonn and took over the operative business.

Until 1994, the tram line to Graurheindorf ended in a turning loop at Bonn harbor , which at that time was extended to Auerberg , removing the section that ran through Werftstraße .

Economical meaning

With 65,000 square meters, the inland port is one of the smaller ports along the Rhine. It is operated by Bonner Hafenbetriebe GmbH , a merger of Am Zehnhoff-Söns GmbH and Stadtwerke Bonn GmbH. The throughput in 2011 was around 795,000 tons. Around 100 containers are loaded and unloaded every day.

Furnishing

Using IT-supported container cranes, multifunction cranes and IT-bound parking space management, around 50 arrivals and departures are managed per week. In addition to containers, bulk goods , bulk goods , general cargo and project cargo can also be handled.

Between 2008 and 2012 the port was expanded and fortified for around 16 million euros. One of the most important investments was a new container bridge with a 122 meter long and 43 meter high bridge girder, which has a load capacity of 65 tons and a total weight of 600 tons.

The passenger shipping will continue to use the old border at the Beethoven Hall as a dock. There are separate jetties for small vehicles 3.5 km downstream for recreational shipping.

traffic

The 565 federal motorway runs just 300 m south of the port area and can be reached by driving about one kilometer at the Bonn-Auerberg junction. Since 1924 the port was connected to the rail network via the Rheinuferbahn . In 1974, however, the line was closed. There is a public transport connection to the "old" Lände near the Kennedy Bridge. From there it is only a few steps to the Moses-Hess-Ufer , the landing stage that is used by passenger ships.
