Lands

The Donaulände in Linz was the main port of the city of Linz until the floods of 1954 . Today it serves as the main landing stage for passenger ships.

A Lände or Schifflände (in Switzerland regionally also Ländte or Ländi ) is a simple landing site on a body of water, i.e. the simplest form of an inland port. The bank is paved and the fairway widened accordingly. In contrast to an expanded port, the port water and the waterway are not separated from each other by any structures.

Historically, the landing sites of the Holztrift are also called Lände .

The Austrian Shipping Act defines the land as a landing site with facilities for mooring vehicles or floating bodies, with the exception of ports . The name " Lände" can therefore also be found in the street names of many towns and cities located on larger rivers or lakes. So there is, for example, in Vienna a variety of on the Danube or on the Danube Canal nearby streets with -lände end, such as the banks of the Danube .

The term Lände is not used in the German inland navigation system (BinSchStrO) . In this legal text, the terms berths , transshipment point, waiting point and roadstead are used instead . Since the 17th century, the word Lände has been displaced from the standard German language and only used regionally, for example in southern Germany and Austria and also in German-speaking Switzerland.
