The metal forum on the Linz Donaulände

The forum metall was an exhibition with sculptures by national and international artists in 1977 on the Donaulände, initiated by the metal artist and then rector of the Linz Art University Helmuth Gsöllpointner and the New Gallery of the City of Linz - Director Peter Baum .

Twelve large sculptures by artists from seven nations were placed on the Donaulände and in the park area of the Brucknerhaus and will be supplemented by further works over time.

The intention of the metal forum was to combine art and business and, from this cooperation, to refer to the important role of Linz as an industrial location and at the same time an up-and-coming art metropolis. Artists of international standing such as Max Bill , Bernhard Luginbühl , Piotr Kowalski , Haus-Rucker-Co , Mathias Goeritz , Erwin Heerich , Klaus Rinke , Donald Judd , Herbert Bayer , Günther Uecker , David Rabinowitch , Erwin Reiter and Eduardo Paolozzi were invited for to create large-format sculptures for the Danube Park in Linz. All works were specially designed for Linz and produced in Austrian companies. Initially, an exhibition was planned with a minimum duration of two years, but this has meanwhile become a permanent loan from the respective artist for many .

In 1998 the steel sculpture “Hommage à Anton Bruckner ” by the Spanish sculptor Amadeo Gabino was installed. The 18-ton work of art was manufactured in the Voest Alpine MCE in Linz and brought to its destination in the Donaupark by ship and heavy-duty crane.

The works of Bayer, Paolozzis, Ueckers and others were re-staged for Linz09 with a light show by Rolf Derrer .

The " Nike of Samothrace ", created by the Haus-Rucker-Co architectural group, directed from the roof of the art college in the direction of the main square , caused a lot of excitement and misunderstandings. It was dismantled two years after it was erected. The large sculptures by Donald Judd, Bernhard Luginbühl and Klaus Rinke were also returned at the request of the artists.
