Even though Gabino was already creating abstract paintings around 1951, his sculptures initially remained figurative - for example female nudes in bronze. Between 1958 and 1960, in Hamburg, the first abstract sculptures were made, among others in iron. From 1961 onwards, Gabino developed abstract metal objects and his constructivist collages made of overlapping metal plates - not unlike a harness - through which he became internationally known. "The rounded metal sheets were artfully riveted together to form cubes, columns, reliefs and gates and symbolize the technical-industrial age." [Brigitte Reutner]

His works are represented in numerous museums, including the Museo Reina Sofía , Madrid, Museum of Fine Arts Bilbao , Andalusian Center for Contemporary Art, Seville , Brooklyn Museum , New York City, Instituto Venezolano de Investigaciones Científicas, Caracas , Venezuela, Museo Tamayo Arte Contemporáneo , Chapultepec , Mexico, Lentos Art Museum Linz , or in the Kunsthalle Mannheim .

Amadeo Gabino: Homage to F. Schiller (1992)

From around 1990 Gabino created large-format works from COR-TEN steel , many of them for public spaces. Special mention should be made of the monumental sculptures Homage to Anton Bruckner (1998) on the Donaulände (Linz) , Austria, and Homage to Galileo (1992) in Madrid, Spain. They derive their effect from their expressive gesture on the one hand and Gabino's interest in architectural spatial situations on the other.
