Bart Aernouts (born June 5, 1984 in Merksem , Antwerp ) is a Belgian duathlete and triathlete . He is Duathlon World Champion (2010), Duathlon European Champion (2013), Ironman 70.3 European Champion (2014), Ironman winner (2014, 2017, 2018) and Challenge winner (2017).

Career

Bart Aernouts was runner-up in the duathlon long distance world championship in 2008.

Duathlon World Champion 2010

In the duathlon he was runner-up in the long-distance world champion in 2008 and Duathlon world champion in Edinburgh in 2010. In April 2013 he became European Duathlon Champion in the Netherlands.

Since 2010 he has also started in triathlon and he celebrated his first international triathlon successes at the Antwerp Ironman 70.3 , which he won in 2010, 2011 and 2012. In October 2012 he started for the first time at the Ironman Hawaii (Ironman World Championships) and finished eleventh.

Winner Ironman 70.3 European Championships 2014

In June 2014 he was also able to win the Ironman France on the long distance in Nice and in August he became European champion on the Ironman 70.3 distance in Wiesbaden . In September he finished eighth at the Ironman 70.3 World Championship in Canada and ninth at Ironman Hawaii in October 2014.

In August 2015 he was fourth in the middle distance in the Ironman 70.3 World Championship in the Austrian province of Salzburg as part of the Ironman 70.3 Zell am See-Kaprun . In May 2017, Bart Aernouts won his second Ironman victory at Ironman Lanzarote . In July 2018, the then 34-year-old won his third Ironman race with the Ironman Hamburg .

2nd place Ironman Hawaii 2018

At Ironman Hawaii, he became Ironman Vice World Champion in October. He improved his best time on the Ironman distance to 7:56:41 h, thus achieving a time below the eight-hour mark in Hawaii behind the winner, the German Patrick Lange, and he carried himself with his bike split (4th place) : 12: 26 h) in fourth place in the list of the best in the sub-disciplines . Bart Aernouts started for the BMC Vifit Pro Triathlon Team until 2018 .
