The Ironman 70.3 Mallorca is a triathlon sport event over the middle distance (1.9 km swimming, 90 km cycling and 21.1 km running) that has been taking place on the Spanish Balearic island of Mallorca since 2011 .

organization

Ironman 70.3 is a protected trademark of the Chinese Dalian Wanda Group or its subsidiary WTC , which originally awarded its use to independent organizers in return for payment of license fees and has increasingly also been an organizer itself since 2009.

The “Nirvana Ironman 70.3 Mallorca” (until 2015 “Thomas Cook Ironman 70.3 Mallorca”) was the sixth Ironman race in Europe and was held for the first time on May 14, 2011 in the north of the island in the port city of Alcúdia .

The race offers 35 qualifying places for a start at the Ironman 70.3 World Championship.

The German Andreas Dreitz won here for the third time in a row in 2016 and with Laura Philipp , the fastest among women, there was a German double victory this year.

Laura Philipp successfully defended her title from the previous year in 2017. After no continuation of the Ironman Mallorca was announced for 2017 , this is the only Ironman race on the Balearic island. The last race took place here on May 11, 2019. The event originally planned for May 9, 2020 was canceled in March due to the spread of the coronavirus and postponed to October.

Route

  • The swimming course is located at the port of the city of Alcúdia.
  • The bike course leads into the mountainous landscape of Mallorca and is a 1-lap course with climbs and descents as well as long, flat sections.
  • The running route at Ironman 70.3 Mallorca is a flat 3-lap course along the beach of Alcúdia. The finish area is just 500 meters from the swim start right next to the harbor area.
