Laura Philipp (born April 23, 1987 ) is a German triathlete and German champion in the triathlon middle distance (2016). She is in second place in the best list of German triathletes on the Ironman distance .

Career

Laura Philipp has been a triathlete since 2011. Until 2012 she started in "Non Drafting" short distance races (slipstream races) as well as in cross triathlon.

First start on the middle distance in 2013

In 2013 she started switching to the middle distance at the Challenge Kraichgau, in which she finished fifth.

In June 2014 Laura Philipp became German runner-up in the middle distance. As the best German she was third at the Ironman 70.3 European Championship in Wiesbaden in August. She has been a professional athlete since 2015.

German champion triathlon middle distance 2016

In May 2016 Laura Philipp celebrated her first Ironman 70.3 victory in the middle distance in Mallorca . Two weeks later she was also able to win the Ironman 70.3 Austria .

At the Challenge Heilbronn she became German champion in the triathlon middle distance in June 2016. Due to the weather, the race had to be held as a duathlon (5 km running, 93 km cycling and 21.1 km running), but the German Triathlon Union (DTU) decided to use the result as DM.

Third Ironman 70.3 World Championship 2017

In March 2017 she won the Mainova Frankfurt Half Marathon . She finished third at the Ironman 70.3 World Championship in September. In October 2017, the then 30-year-old finished third at the Xterra World Championship Cross Triathlon.

Since 2018 she starts for the Soprema triathlon team of TSV Mannheim .
In May 2018, with a new course record, she won the third victory in a row at Ironman 70.3 Austria . In August she won the Ironman 70.3 Zell am See-Kaprun , which had to be held on a shortened course due to the weather without the bike distance.

First start of the Ironman distance 2018

At her first start on the Ironman distance (3.86 km swimming, 180.2 km cycling and 42.195 km running), the then 31-year-old won the Ironman Barcelona in October and set her winning time of 8:34:57 h a new course record , the new best time of a German athlete , the seventh best time worldwide for a woman on the Ironman distance and the fastest time for an Ironman debut.

At the Challenge Heilbronn , Laura Philipp had to stop the race in May 2019 because of a leg injury suffered there and cancel her planned starts at the Ironman 70.3 Kraichgau (June 2nd) and the Challenge Roth (July 7th). In October, the 32-year-old finished fourth at the Ironman Hawaii (Ironman World Championships) with the fastest bike time (4:45:05 h). She has been part of the hep Sports Team since 2020 .

In December 2020 she finished third at the PTO Professional Triathletes Organization World Championships in Florida .

At the European Championships in triathlon over the long distance in 2021, she won the women 's title.

Private

Laura Philipp is a vegetarian . She lives in Heidelberg with her husband and trainer Philipp Seipp .
