Simone Mortier (born February 14, 1964 in Würzburg ) is a former German duathlete and triathlete . Today she works as a doctor.
Career
At the age of 13, Simone Mortier began doing artistic gymnastics and successfully took part in competitions. At the age of 18 she had to quit gymnastics due to knee problems and she was an exchange student in Canada for a year. There she got to know triathlon and in the 1980s she pioneered this “new” sport in Germany.
In 1988 she became German triathlon champion twice, on the short and middle distance.
European champion triathlon short distance 1989
In 1989 Simone Mortier became European champion on the short distance.
In 1991 and 1993 she became German Duathlon Champion.
In 2009 she started as an amateur at the European Triathlon Championships and was able to win the age group 45-49 in the Netherlands.
Simone Mortier finished her medical studies in Singen and Schaffhausen after moving with her husband to Schaffhausen , where the mother of three has lived since then. Her daughter Caroline Mortier is also active as a triathlete and she became German champion on the duathlon sprint distance in 2014.
