Thea Sybesma (born December 18, 1960 in the Netherlands ) is a former Dutch duathlete , triathlete and two-time Ironman winner (1991, 1993).

Career

Thea Sybesma first studied physiotherapy and later medicine in Groningen .

Duathlon world champion 1990

She was three times European duathlon champion (1990, 1991, 1992) and in 1990 also achieved the title of duathlon world champion.

In 1991 she became European triathlon champion in Roth with her victory over the ironman distance - here she was the first female athlete in the world to achieve a time of less than nine hours.
In 1992 she was third at the Triathlon World Championship in Hawaii and she ended her athletic career in 1993.

She is currently working as an orthopedic surgeon at St. Anna Hospital in Geldrop .
