Forster is a coastal city in the Australian state of New South Wales . It forms with the opposite bank of the Wallis Lake lying Tuncurry a double city . The population of Forster-Tuncurry is 19,918 (as of 2016).
The Great Lakes region around the two cities, about 300 km northeast of Sydney , is a holiday resort for the inhabitants of the metropolis.
The city was named after an early New South Wales Prime Minister William Forster; Tuncurry means "a lot of fish" in the language of the local Aborigines .
Forster-Tuncurry is part of the administrative area of Great Lakes Council .
