Kathleen Smet (born January 19, 1970 in Beveren ) is a former Belgian triathlete . She is a two-time European triathlon champion in the short distance (2000, 2002), an Olympian (2000, 2004) and a world champion in the long distance (2005).

Career

Kathleen Smet started triathlon in 1991 and after some national successes she was to be found in international racing from 1996 onwards. In 1998 she became the student world champion triathlon in Kiel. Smet started in the 2000 Summer Olympics.

In the following years she won several triathlon titles at European (2000, 2002) and World Championships (2005) on the short and long distance. In 2004 she started again at the Olympic Games in Athens and took fourth place.

Kathleen Smet ended her professional career in 2005. She lives with her husband in Lommel .
