Almere triathlon
With Almere triathlon (official name until 2012 Holland Triathlon since 2013 Challenge Almere ) a series of competition events of the sport is triathlon referred to in the Dutch municipality of Almere are held since 1983 on the long distance.

After the Ironman Hawaii, the race is one of the world's oldest on the Ironman distance (3.86 km swimming, 180.2 km cycling and 42.195 km running) and was first held in 1983.
In 1985, 1991, 1999 and 2006 the European Triathlon Union (ETU) championships and in 2008 the International Triathlon Union (ITU) world championships over the long distance triathlon were held here in Almere near Amsterdam (partly as "UPC Holland Triathlon ").
The course record was set here in 1999 by the Dutchman Jan van der Marel with his winning time of 7:57:46 h. The race track in Almere is in many places below sea level and the area has the reputation of a "bare and windy plain".
The race has been part of the Challenge Family series since 2013 and the Challenge Almere-Amsterdam hosted the European championship on the long distance in 2014 and 2017. The last race took place here on September 8, 2018.

In 2012 and 2013 the “Half-Challenge Almere” and in 2010 the “Almere Premium European Cup” (Olympic Distance) were held here on the half-distance.
