Jodie Cunnama (* 23. June 1981 in Loughborough as Jodie Ann Swallow ) is a former triathlete from the United Kingdom . She is student world champion (2000), junior European champion (2000), Olympian (2004) and two-time and world champion in the long distance triathlon (2009, 2016). She won the Ironman 70.3 World Championships in 2010 .

Career

Jodie Swallow was active in swimming in her youth.
She has been practicing triathlon since 2000 and after her junior European championship title in 2000 she was named “Most Successful Athlete of the Season” by the ETU in 2001.

2004 Summer Olympics

In 2004 she started in Athens at the Olympic Games, where she finished 34th.
In 2005 she had to sit out for a year due to an injury. Jodie Swallow graduated from Loughborough University . She was trained by Brett Sutton .

World champion triathlon long distance 2009

In October 2009 she became world champion in the ITU long distance (3 km swimming, 80 km cycling and 20 km running).

In June 2010 Jodie Swallow was second behind the winner Virginia Berasategui at the European Long Distance Championship and in November she won the Ironman 70.3 World Championship in Florida .

From 2011 she started for the TBB team . In St. George, she started the Ironman distance for the first time in May 2011 (3.86 km swimming, 180.2 km cycling and 42.195 km running) - but could not finish the race after a foot injury.

In July 2012 she was third at the world championship on the long distance triathlon in Spain and in August she was fourth at the Ironman 70.3 European Championship in Wiesbaden. She was a member of the Abu Dhabi Triathlon Team until it was dissolved in January 2013 . In July 2013 she finished second at the Ironman European Championship in Frankfurt am Main and in August she won her first Ironman victory in Sweden.

At Ironman Germany , she finished seventh in June 2014, giving her the required number of points to qualify for Ironman Hawaii in October in the Kona Pro Ranking System of the organizing company WTC . In September 2014 she finished second in Canada at the Ironman 70.3 World Championship and at Ironman Hawaii, Swallow finished fourth in October. In December she was third in the Challenge Bahrain . In this race, which was held for the first time, the highest prize money to date was paid out and Swallow secured USD 25,000 in third place in a very strong field.

Since the beginning of 2015 she starts for the newly founded Bahrain Elite Endurance Triathlon Team , which is led by Chris McCormack . In March, she took her second victory in an Ironman race in South Africa.

World champion triathlon long distance 2016

In June 2016 she won her third Ironman race in Cairns and in September she won the world championship long distance triathlon for the second time after 2009.
In 2016 she was able to qualify again for a starting place at Ironman Hawaii, together with seven other athletes from her team: With the two defending champions Daniela Ryf and Jan Frodeno , with her fiancé James Cunnama , David Pleše , Terenzo Bozzone , Brent McMahon and Ben Hoffman . She finished 22nd in October.

In January 2017 she won the Ironman 70.3 South Africa for the seventh time in a row .

Jodie Swallow was engaged to triathlete James Cunnama since March 2016 and the two married in December 2016. She has since started as Jodie Cunnama and now lives in Brentwood . In April 2017, the 35-year-old announced that she was expecting a child in November.
