Ben Hoffman (born August 22, 1983 in Grand Junction ) is an American triathlete . He is a six-time Ironman winner (2010-2017) and was runner-up in the 2014 Ironman World Championship . He is listed as the leader in the list of American triathletes on the Ironman distance .

Career

Ben Hoffman started triathlon in 2004 and has been a professional triathlete since 2007. In July 2010 he won the Ironman USA and in May 2012 he got his second Ironman victory at his third start in Utah.

2nd place Ironman World Championships 2014

In October 2014 he achieved his greatest sporting success to date with second place overall at the Ironman Hawaii .

Since the beginning of 2015 he starts for the newly founded Bahrain Elite Endurance Triathlon Team , which is led by Chris McCormack . In October 2015 he was able to win the “double classification” (combined classification of the World Championship races) from Ironman Hawaii (35th place) and Xterra Maui (10th place).

In April 2016 he won the Ironman South Africa and he was able to qualify for a starting place at Ironman Hawaii for the fourth time - together with seven other athletes from his team: With the two defending champions Daniela Ryf and Jan Frodeno , with Jodie Swallow , David Pleše , James Cunnama , Terenzo Bozzone and Brent McMahon . Ben Hoffman finished fourth in October.

In April 2017 he was able to successfully defend his victory in Port Elizabeth (South Africa) and set the second fastest time ever achieved by an American athlete on the Ironman distance at Ironman South Africa with his winning time of 7:59:39 h. At the Ironman Hawaii in October, he finished ninth. At the Xterra World Championship, the then 34-year-old finished twelfth two weeks later in Hawaii in October 2017.

In October 2019 he finished fourth at the Ironman Hawaii for the second time after 2016. He is trained by Elliot Bassett .
