David Pleše (born August 15, 1983 in Slovenia Gradec ) is a Slovenian duathlete and triathlete . He is national triathlon champion (2013) and Ironman winner (2015).

Career

David Pleše has been a triathlete since 2004. In May 2007 he started in Hungary at the Duathlon World Championship and finished 48th.

Long distance since 2012

In July 2013 he became the Slovenian triathlon champion at the Olympic distance (1.5 km swimming, 40 km cycling and 10 km running).

In Klagenfurt, David Pleše reached third place on the long distance in June 2014 with a new personal Ironman best time (8:02:54 h), as in the previous year at Ironman Austria, and in Zurich he was just over a minute behind in July Second at Ironman Switzerland .

Since the beginning of 2015 he starts for the then newly founded Bahrain Elite Endurance Triathlon Team , which is led by Chris McCormack .

Ironman victory 2015

In October 2015, Pleše won the Ironman Barcelona with a new course record - and with it his first Ironman race.

In 2016 he was able to qualify again for a starting place at Ironman Hawaii , together with seven other athletes from his team: With the two defending champions Daniela Ryf and Jan Frodeno , with Jodie Swallow , Terenzo Bozzone , James Cunnama , Brent McMahon and Ben Hoffman . He finished 17th.

In July 2018, the then 34-year-old finished second at Ironman Switzerland .
