Terenzo Bozzone (born March 1, 1985 in South Africa) is a duathlete and triathlete starting for New Zealand . He is duathlon junior world champion (2001, 2002), triathlon junior world champion (2002, 2003) and triathlon runner-up world champion on the long distance (2013), winner of the Ironman 70.3 World Championship (2008) and multiple Ironman winner (2016-2018). He is ranked first in the list of New Zealand triathletes on the Ironman distance .

Career

Terenzo Bozzone was born in South Africa and he grew up in New Zealand.

Junior world champion duathlon 2001

In his school days he was able to achieve a number of sporting successes and at the age of 16 he became junior world champion in the duathlon in 2001 and again in 2002. Since 1999 he has also competed in triathlon competitions and he became junior world champion in 2002 and 2003.

Winner Ironman 70.3 World Championships 2008

In 2008 he won the Ironman 70.3 World Championship (series of triathlons over 1.9 km swimming, 90 km cycling and 21.1 km running).
In 2009 Bozzone started the Ironman New Zealand for the first time over the long distance and finished second behind his compatriot Cameron Brown . In 2010 and 2011 he was able to repeat this success. In June 2013 he was runner-up in the long distance world champion and in September in Las Vegas he was runner-up at the Ironman 70.3 World Championships . In September 2014, he finished ninth in the Ironman 70.3 World Championship in Canada .

In February 2015 Bozzone won the first race of the “Challenge Triple Crown Series”. Since the beginning of 2015 he starts for the newly founded Bahrain Elite Endurance Triathlon Team , which is led by Chris McCormack .

Ironman winner 2016

In September 2016, he finished fourth in the Ironman 70.3 World Championships in Australia. In 2016 he was able to qualify again for a starting place at Ironman Hawaii , together with seven other athletes from his team: With the two defending champions Daniela Ryf and Jan Frodeno , with Jodie Swallow , David Pleše , James Cunnama , Brent McMahon and Ben Hoffman . In December he won his first Ironman race at Ironman Western Australia .

At Ironman Hawaii in October 2017, he finished sixth on his fourth start after finishing eleventh here. In March 2018 he won the Ironman New Zealand and was able to win the New Zealand Ultra Distance National Championships (triathlon state championship on the long distance). In July, he was hit by a car while training and injured.

In May 2019, the 34-year-old finished seventh in the long distance triathlon world championship.

His nicknames are "T." or "Flying Kiwi" and he lives in Auckland with his wife and their two children .
