Timothy O'Donnell (born October 1, 1980 in Shavertown, Pennsylvania ) is an American triathlete . He is triathlon world champion on the ITU long distance (2009), two-time Ironman winner (2013, 2017) and he is included in the best list of American triathletes on the Ironman distance .

Career

Timothy O'Donnell has been a member of the American national team since 2007.

World champion triathlon long distance 2009

In October 2009, the 29-year-old was triathlon world champion in Australia in the long distance (3 km swimming, 80 km cycling and 20 km running) of the International Triathlon Union (ITU).
On August 1, 2010, he started in Immenstadt im Allgäu as the defending champion at the World Long Distance Championship and won the runner-up world title behind the Frenchman Sylvain Sudrie .

In November 2010 he finished third in the Ironman 70.3 World Championship in Florida .

Ironman distance since 2011

At his first start on the Ironman distance, he finished second straight away in 2011 in Texas. In May 2013 he won his first Ironman victory in Brazil and in October he finished fifth at Ironman Hawaii .

Behind the two Germans Jan Frodeno and Andreas Raelert , he finished third at the Ironman World Championship in Hawaii in October 2015.

In March 2016 he was able to win the Ironman 70.3 Puerto Rico for the third time. He won the Ironman Boulder in June 2017 with a new course record.

At the Ironman Hawaii 2018, he finished fourth.

In October 2019, the 39-year-old finished second, his best result at the Ironman World Championships in Hawaii. Tim O'Donnell has been Co-President of the Professional Triathletes Organization since 2019 .

Private

He has been married to the Australian triathlete Mirinda Carfrae (* 1981) since December 2013 and lives with her in Boulder (Colorado) .
