Torbjørn Sindballe (born October 21, 1976 in Albertslund ) is a former Danish triathlete . He is ETU European champion (2003) and two-time ITU world champion in the long-distance triathlon (2004 and 2006).

Career

Torbjørn Sindballe started triathlon in 1991 at the age of 15.

He studied at the University of Copenhagen . In Sweden in July 1999 and again in Nice in 2002, he was runner-up in the long-distance triathlon world championship. His nickname as an athlete was "Thunder Bear".

In August 2003 Sindballe became European long-distance triathlon champion in Denmark.

World champion triathlon long distance 2004

In July 2004, he became world long distance champion in Sweden. In October he was sixth at the Ironman Hawaii (Ironman World Championships).

World champion triathlon long distance 2006

In 2006 he repeated his success from 2004 and won his second world title on the long distance.

In 2007 he finished third at the Ironman Hawaii (Ironman World Championship).

At the end of June 2009, Torbjørn Sindballe had to say goodbye to active competitive sport due to a heart valve defect and end his career. Today he lives in Hørsholm .
