Joe Skipper (born March 25, 1988 in Lowestoft ) is a British duathlete and triathlete . In 2011 he became British triathlon champion in the middle distance, at the ITU World Championship long distance triathlon he won the bronze medal in 2015 and in 2017 he became ETU European champion in the long distance triathlon. He ranks second in the list of British triathletes on the Ironman distance .
Career
At the end of 2010, the then 22-year-old completed his first triathlon as a challenge. He enjoyed it and joined the Manchester Tri Club for socializing while training .
After winning the British championship in the middle distance, Lucy Gossage convinced him to get a professional license. At Ironman Texas 2015, Skipper set the third fastest cycling time of all time in a triathlon over the Ironman distance.
With a time of 7:56:23 h in his second place at the Challenge Roth 2016, Skipper was the fastest British triathlete to date over the Ironman distance.
European champion long distance triathlon 2017
Joe Skipper won the Challenge Almere-Amsterdam in September 2017 and became ETU European champion in the long distance triathlon. In 2017 he won the Challenge Family's “European Bonus Ranking” .
In July 2018, the then 30-year-old won the Ironman UK and improved his personal best Ironman time to 7:55:34 h.
At the Ironman Hawaii 2019, he finished sixth as the best Briton in October. In November he won the Ironman Florida and set a personal best and a new course record with his winning time of 7:46:28 h.
In March 2020 he won the Ironman New Zealand with a new course record.
