There were races over the half distance (1.9 km swimming, 90 km cycling and 21 km running) and the long distance (3.86 km swimming, 180 km cycling and 42.195 km running). These took place in the city of Calella in the Costa del Maresme region east of Barcelona and were part of the Challenge Triathlon World Series . In May 2013, the European Triathlon Union (ETU) championship was held on the half-distance .
For both distances, the swim course is in the Mediterranean Sea with start and finish in Calella .
The bike route runs from Calella to the west along the Mediterranean coast. The half-distance route leads as a turning point route to Mataró , two laps are driven. The long distance also follows the coast to El Masnou on the eastern outskirts of Barcelona . Two laps are also driven on this turning point route, followed by a third lap, which is turned around in Mataro. Due to the direct course by the sea, the route is unusually flat. Their height difference is a maximum of 20 meters.
The running route is a turning point route over 10.5 km, which leads from the start in Calella along the coast to the east to Santa Susanna and back to Calella. The route is completed twice on the half-distance, and four times on the long-distance.
