Bas Diederen
Bas Diederen (born May 19, 1980 in Sittard ) is a Dutch triathlete , eleven-time national champion (between 2005 and 2013) and Ironman winner (2015).
Career
Bas Diederen started out with performance-oriented swimming at a young age and then switched to triathlon in 1999.
In 2003 he was third at the state championship on the short distance triathlon. In the same year he also took part for the first time in the European Championships over the Olympic distance (1.5 km swimming, 40 km cycling and 10 km running) and finished in 37th place.
National champion triathlon short distance 2005
From 2005 he was honored seven times as Dutch champion over the short distance and in 2011 he became national champion in the triathlon middle distance for the fourth time in a row.
Winner Amateurs Ironman World Championship 2011
In October 2011, Bas Diederen was the fastest amateur at the Ironman World Championship in Hawaii (3.86 km swimming, 180.2 km cycling and 42.195 km running) and thus became the "Amateur World Champion".
Since the end of 2011 he has started as a professional athlete for the Team4Talent association . In the following year, he won his first triathlon over the Ironman distance at the Challenge Barcelona-Maresme .
In July 2013 he was third at the Ironman European Championship in Frankfurt am Main and in August for the seventh time national champion in the short distance triathlon.
In the same place, he finished fourth with a new personal Ironman best time in July 2015. Four weeks later he was able to celebrate his second victory on the Ironman distance at the first Ironman Maastricht-Limburg .
