The Siegerland-Cup (also Buschhütten triathlon ) is an annually since 1987 in Buschhütten held Triathlon -Sportveranstaltung. It is the season opening of the German triathlon sport in May and is organized by the gymnastics club Germania Buschhütten ( TVG Buschhütten ).

organization

The event started in 1987 as a simple "village sports event", but then developed into one of the most important German triathlon events in the mid-1990s with the participation of German triathlon stars such as Thomas Hellriegel and Andreas tiefig. Almost parallel to the triathlon event, which has EJOT Team TV Buschhütten developed.

When Chris McCormack , originally from Australia , took part in Buschhütten in 2005 and came in second, the Siegerland Cup achieved international renown. The attendance record was reached in 2008 with an estimated 6000 viewers.

The “Buschhütten Triathlon” covers the Olympic distance: 1 km swimming in the Buschhütten outdoor pool, 41.9 km cycling on the HTS expressway and 10 km running in downtown Buschhütten.

In 2008, the triathlon event took 10th place in the Race of the Year category at the Triathlon magazine awards . In 2011 the Siegerland Cup was voted one of the six best events in Europe by triathlon . In 2012 Sebastian Kienle achieved the fifth victory in a row.

In 2013, a Bundesliga race for men and women took place in Buschhütten for the first time . In the 2013 season, four races were held in the 1st Bundesliga:

In July 2015, Rainer Jung, who has been the chief organizer of the Siegerland Cup since 1987, announced his resignation after the 30th anniversary next year. In 2016 the race was held in this form for the last time.

On September 3, 2017 there was the "Swim + Run Buschhütten" and at the same time the German championships in the "Triathlon Team Relay" will be held as a relay race (mixed team: 0.3 km swimming, 5.4 km cycling and 1.25 km km running).

In May 2018, after a one-year break, the race over the Olympic distance will take place again. In 2018 Andreas Böcherer was able to successfully defend the title from 2016.
