The Triathlon-Bundesliga (also named after the main sponsor 1. Bitburger 0.0% Triathlon-Bundesliga ; meanwhile also the German Triathlon League (DTL) ) includes the 1st and 2nd Triathlon Bundesliga, the two highest German triathlon leagues . The 1st Triathlon Bundesliga was introduced in 1996. Together with the 2nd Bundesliga North and South, it is advertised and maintained annually by the German Triathlon Union (DTU).
1. Bitburger 0.0% Triathlon Bundesliga
Regulations
Five men or four women per team start per competition, of which the first four or three are rated. In individual competitions, the team rating is determined by adding up the individual placements. The team with the lowest place number wins. For the league ranking, the team placements are added up. If the team seat numbers are equal, the sum of the single seat numbers decides.
Some competitions (e.g. in the 2nd Bundesliga) consist of a very short Grand Prix and a subsequent team hunting race. The DTU German Elite Championship is usually among the competitions. The races are open to slipstream driving. The teams in positions 15 and 16 for men and 13 and 14 for women will be relegated to the 2nd Triathlon Bundesliga.
Review 2017
In the 2017 season, 16 men's and 14 women's teams started. During the season, from the beginning of June to mid-September, five competitions were held over the sprint distance (0.75 km swimming, 20 km cycling and 5 km running). After the opening race in Ubstadt-Weiher ( Kraichgau ) on June 10, 2017, the Bundesliga premiere followed in Münster on July 23. On August 6th, Tübingen hosted the third competition of the season. The 30 teams then met for the fourth time in Grimma , Saxony . The big season finale took place for the first time on September 9th in the Baltic resort of Binz on the island of Rügen.
After the 2017 season, ROWE Triathlon (women and men), KOMET Team TV Lemgo , LTS Team TV Mengen (both women) and Kiwami Triteam Grassau (men) withdrew from the 1st Bitburger 0.0% Triathlon Bundesliga . In addition, the PV Triathlon Witten and the TG Witten merged to form the new Triathlon Witten team. The only sporting relegation was the Hansalog Services Team Göppingen . The promotion to the highest German triathlon league was achieved by the teams from the MRRC Triathlon from Munich , Bayer 05 Uerdingen , Mey Post-SV Tübingen and the 3defacto team asc Darmstadt . In the men's category , the Nikar Heidelberg team , the gebioMized W + F Münster team and the SPANNRIT team TSG Kleinostheim made it into the triathlon upper house.

2. Triathlon Bundesliga North & South
The 2nd Triathlon Bundesliga is divided into the 2nd Triathlon Bundesliga North and the 2nd Triathlon Bundesliga South . The same rules apply as in the 1st Triathlon Bundesliga. There are a maximum of 18 men's and 12 women's teams per region. The two winning teams can be promoted to the 1st Triathlon Bundesliga. The teams in places 16 to 18 for men and 10 to 12 for women are relegated to the regional leagues. In 2017, races for women's teams took place for the first time in the 2nd Triathlon Bundesliga South. Last year the Triathlon Team DSW Darmstadt won the 2nd Triathlon Bundesliga South. The year before, the Darmstadt team finished second.
More leagues
Below the 2nd triathlon national leagues there are six regional leagues, below which there are often other national leagues. These leagues are the responsibility of the respective national associations and sometimes differ considerably in terms of the rules. Team strengths as well as the number and type of competitions vary. Slipstream driving is generally prohibited. The winners of the regional leagues are allowed to advance to the 2nd triathlon national leagues.

history
The 1st Triathlon Bundesliga has been held since 1996 and initially consisted of 20 men's teams, six of which were relegated at the end of the season. The relegation regulation was suspended for women, as only about ten teams participated. In the 2004 season, the name German Triathlon League (DTL) was introduced to better market the 1st Triathlon Bundesliga .
In 2006 the league was restructured. Two new 2nd triathlon leagues have been pushed between the 1st Triathlon Bundesliga and the previous six 2nd Triathlon Bundesliga. The former 2nd triathlon national leagues became the six regional leagues. The term German Triathlon League (DTL) has since included the 1st and 2nd Triathlon Bundesliga. From 2011 to 2014, the 1st Triathlon Bundesliga was organized and marketed by Triathlon Bundesliga GmbH (shareholders were the Triathlon Bundesliga clubs). Since then, the term German Triathlon League has not been used any more. At the beginning of 2015 the Triathlon Bundesliga GmbH was dissolved again, the partner acquisition and support for the 1st Triathlon Bundesliga (as before for the 2nd Triathlon Bundesliga) is again provided by the DTU. Since the 2016 season, the highest German triathlon league has been operating under the name 1. Bitburger 0.0% Triathlon Bundesliga.
