The Cologne Triathlon Team 01 e. V. Köln was founded in 2001 by twenty founding members, ten of whom were young people, with the aim of promoting young talent in the triathlon and duathlon sector. According to the club, it was advised to be represented in the Triathlon Bundesliga with a team consisting primarily of its own offspring from the start . In 2004, a men's team started in the lowest North Rhine-Westphalian league, the Verbandsliga Süd, for the first time. After six ascents in a row, the first team then competed in the 1st Bundesliga for the first time in 2010 under the name of the main sponsor Marathon-Finanz AG - Cologne Triathlon Team 01 . Since 2013, the team has been running under the name of the new main sponsor EBL Consulting as EBL KTT 01 .

A mountain bike department was founded in 2003, but a few years later it separated from the main club as MTB RheinBerg . A swimming department was established in 2010 .
