PV Triathlon Witten is a 1987 by seven founding members in Witten established triathlon club .

As part of the maintenance of cultural activities with the French twin town of Witten, Beauvais , the idea arose in the summer of 1987 to organize a triathlon competition in Witten on the occasion of the SPD festival on the Hüllberg. The enthusiasm for the 1st Witten Triathlon on July 5th, 1987 led to the foundation of the PV Triathlon Witten in the following week. The abbreviation "PV" is reminiscent of the partnership association active in maintaining the town twinning. One of the most successful triathlon clubs in Germany developed from the seven founding members. The number of members exceeded 550 active and passive members for the first time in 2003 and is stable at over 700.

The PV-Triathlon Witten has been organizing the Ruhr Valley Marathon since 2007, and in 2014 490 runners took part.

As ASICS Team Witten , the men's team was able to finish as season winner and German team champion for the first five years in a row after the establishment of the Triathlon Bundesliga in 1996, and in 2002 and 2003 the team was vice-champions. The women's team was also one of the founding members of the Triathlon Bundesliga and finished the first season in 1996 as vice-champions, from 1998 the women became champions four times in a row and vice-champions in both 2002 and 2003.

In autumn 2003, a large group of triathletes, including the then Bundesliga squad, split off from the PV Triathlon Witten and founded the Triathlon Team Witten (TTW), which also received the right to start in the Triathlon Bundesliga. The TTW later joined the TG Witten as a department . A new team, built up by the new board of the PV-Triathlon Witten, was able to find its place in the top German triathlon leagues within a short time. Since 2009, both men and women have again each represented a team in the 1st Triathlon Bundesliga.

In November 2017, PV-Triathlon Witten and TTW announced that they would again put together teams in the entire league area from the 2018 season.
