The Darmstadt Swimming and Water Sports Club 1912 e. V. , DSW 1912 Darmstadt for short , is a sports club in Darmstadt that mainly deals with water sports . He is represented in both swimming and triathlon in the respective highest national class. It is the first German association to be awarded the silver laurel leaf in 1962 for the 50th anniversary . The association has (as of March 2019) 1,500 members.

The club was founded in 1912 as a pure swimming club. In 1949, a privately founded rowing and canoeing club joined the club system and thus opened a new department. In the meantime, the DSW also offers volleyball and triathlon and is known nationally in the latter.

The swimming department is the largest and most successful at the DSW. In the 1960s and 1970s in particular, she brought out numerous international greats such as Hans-Joachim Klein , Uwe Jacobsen , Traudi Beierlein, Werner Freitag , Andreas Weber, Thomas Lebherz , André Schadt and Heike Hustede . The first team includes Marco Koch , who won the only medal for the pool swimmer in Barcelona in early August 2013 . With 2: 08.54 min he was runner-up in the 200 m breaststroke. Yannick Lebherz , who grew up at the DSW, and Marco Koch have already set more than 20 German youth records together. In 2008 and 2009, both of them also set German records in the open class on the 25 m track (Koch over 100 m and 200 m chest, Lebherz over 400 m medley) and on the 50 m track (Lebherz over 200 m medley and 4 × 200 m freestyle relay, cook over 200 m chest).

The triathlon team competes under the name Triathlon Team DSW Darmstadt . The “Triathlon” department was sponsored by StartNet.de until 2010 and between 2011 and 2015 by Software AG . The male triathletes are represented in the 1st Triathlon Bundesliga and 2nd Bundesliga South. The formerly top-class women's team had to do without a Bundesliga start in 2004 due to a lack of female athletes. From 2019 onwards, they will be back in the highest German triathlon league. Internationally known and successful triathletes of the DSW are, for example, the long-distance athletes Daniela Sämmler , Horst Reichel , Patrick Lange , Kai Hundertmarck , Frank Vytrisal , Jan Sibbersen , Lothar Leder and his wife Nicole Leder .

The men of the DSW 1912 Darmstadt play in the Oberliga Hessen (Men 1) and in the District Oberliga (Men 2). There are also three women's teams: in the regional league (women 1), regional upper league (women 2) and one in the district league (women 3), as well as two female and two male youth teams.
