successes

National

Between 2001 and December 31, 2007, Yannick Lebherz set a total of 28 German age group records and won more than 20 German age group championships. In 2006 he had his first successes in the open class. At the championships in summer, he achieved a seventh and an eighth place over 200 meters back and 400 meters medley. At the winter championships in November 2006, he won a silver medal over 200 meters back. In 2007, two more medals were added in the open class, namely bronze over 200 meters back and 400 meters medley at the German short course championships in Essen. His first major success was the title of German champion in the 400 meter medley, which he was able to achieve at the 120th German Swimming Championships in Berlin in 2008 in 4: 21.11 minutes. At the German Short Course Championships in Essen in 2008 , he set a German record in 4: 09.05 minutes over this route in the final. (He did not become German champion with it, because Łukasz Wójt won the race in 4: 06.56 min. However, the Pole does not have a German passport, so his times were not counted as national records, although he is eligible to start in championships.) 2009 Yannick Lebherz set a German record over 200 meters in 2: 00.09 minutes in Austin (USA). In the same year he became German champion over the two individual layers. He improved the German record over 400 meters to 4: 14.63 minutes.

In 2010 he won the German championships on short and long courses over 200 meters back and 400 meters medley. He swam a new German record in the 400 meter medley (4: 08.52 min) at the German short course championships in Wuppertal. In 2011 he defended his two long-course titles in Berlin, even setting a German record over 400 meters in 4: 14.02 minutes and reaching the norm for the World Championships in Shanghai to a hundredth of a second.

International

Yannick Lebherz made his first international appearance in 2005 at the European Summer Olympic Youth Festival . Here he won gold in the 4 × 100 meter freestyle relay and silver in the 4 × 100 meter individual relay relay and over 200 meters back. After taking part in the European Youth Championships in Mallorca in 2006, where Lebherz took fourth place over 200 meters back, he had his best international appearance so far at the 2007 European Youth Championships in Antwerp. He won a bronze medal in the 400 meter medley and a silver medal with the 4 × 200 meter freestyle relay. He was also in the run-up to the 4 × 100-meter freestyle relay, which was victorious in the final, and achieved fourth place in the final over 200 meters back. In 2006 he took part in the European Short Course Championships 2006 in Helsinki.

At the swimming world championships in Rome in 2009 , for which he was nominated despite lacking qualifications at the German swimming championships, Lebherz swam the two long individual layers and 200 meters back. He did not make it into a single final, but improved the German record with 1: 58.94 minutes in the run-up to the 200 meter medley. Lebherz was the first German to break the two-minute limit on this route. He finished fifth with the 4 × 200 meter freestyle relay.

2010 was Yannick Lebherz's most successful year so far. At the European Championships in Budapest he reached two finals in which the ranks seven (200 meters back) and five (400 meters medley) jumped out. As a long track specialist, he also showed amazing performances on the 25-meter track at the European Short Track Championships in Eindhoven, after he was only nominated for one additional criterion. The medal balance after the European Championships was once gold and once silver. He won 200 meters back in 1: 51.74 minutes, over 400 meters medley he won his second medal in a new German record with silver in 4: 05.08 minutes.

In 2012, as in previous years, he was once again German champion over his parade course of 400 meter medley in a time of 4: 14.90 minutes and thus undercut the required Olympic standard. On his second distance, the 200-meter backstroke, he also undercut the norm in a time of 1: 56.84 minutes and was runner-up. At the Olympic Summer Games in London , he was eliminated in eleventh place in the addition of the prelims over 400 meters individual medley before the final round. In the same year he won the bronze medal in the 4 × 200 meter freestyle relay at the short course world championships in a German record time.
