In 1996 he broke off his English and sports studies in Heidelberg and moved to the United States at the University of Miami, where he took up an "Economics degree" (a combination of economics and business administration). He was accepted at Harvard University for his academic and athletic achievements .

In 2000, he narrowly missed the Olympic qualification. In 2002 and again in 2005 he was Bavarian triathlon champion.

2007 Founding of Sailfish GmbH

After the temporary termination of his active triathlon career, Sibbersen founded the company Sailfish in 2007 , which deals with the development and sale of neoprene suits for swimming and triathlon sports.
