Karl Freisleben

Karl Freisleben (born October 14, 1819 in Ochsenhausen ; † December 21, 1903 in Heidenheim ) was a Württemberg lawyer and politician.

Life

Karl Freisleben studied law in Tübingen and Heidelberg . He then worked as a judge in Heidenheim , but switched to the legal profession in 1845. During the revolution of 1848/1849 he became a leading figure in the democratic popular movement in Heidenheim. In 1848 he founded a people's association and a vigilante group, which he led as a major. After the crackdown on the democratic movement, he was sentenced to eight months in prison for preparatory acts of high treason . After his release he worked again as a lawyer in Heidenheim. From 1867 to 1900 he was secretary of the Heidenheim Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

From 1868 to 1870 he was a member of the customs parliament for the Württemberg Democratic People's Party as a member of the Württemberg 5 constituency ( Gmünd , Göppingen , Geislingen , Heidenheim ) .

In Heidenheim, the Freislebenstrasse is named after Karl Freisleben.
