Kleinostheim community as a residential town

Due to its location in the Frankfurt Rhine-Main metropolitan region , Kleinostheim benefits from its proximity to cities such as Frankfurt , Offenbach , Hanau and Aschaffenburg as a place of residence for commuters who are employed in these cities. As a result, the population has doubled from 4,000 to over 8,000 since the 1960s.

Thanks to the favorable transport connections via an important north-south connection of the railway ( Main-Spessart-Bahn ), the A 3 and A 45 federal motorways and the Rhine-Main-Danube waterway with the nearby port of Aschaffenburg , destinations are within and outside the metropolitan region easily accessible.

Surname

etymology

The original name Osenheim consists of the Old High German word haim , which means dwelling or residence, and the personal name Ozzo . It was not until 1594 that the direction east was indicated. The addition of small distinguishes it from the nearby town of Großostheim , which does not derive its name from a personal name, but from the direction of the compass.

history

Former Laurentius Church, now a music school

Kleinostheim was probably founded by the Franks as Ossenheim in the 6th century and was first mentioned in a document in 975. For almost a thousand years it was ecclesiastically and politically closely connected to the St. Peter and Alexander Abbey in Aschaffenburg.

Kleinostheim came to Bavaria in 1814 , before it belonged to Kurmainz (since the 10th century) .

On July 1, 1862, the district office of Aschaffenburg was formed, on whose administrative area Kleinostheim was located. In 1939, as everywhere in the German Reich, the designation district was introduced. Kleinostheim was now one of the 33 communities in the old district of Aschaffenburg . On July 1, 1972, this merged with the Alzenau district in Lower Franconia to form the new Aschaffenburg district.

In the course of the air war in World War II against the German Reich , more than 500 buildings were damaged or completely destroyed in an air raid on January 21, 1945, and 61 people were killed. The memorial in the cemetery, which was redesigned in 1995, is a reminder of this.

In 1951 the third Laurentius Church in the more than 1000-year history of the Catholic community was consecrated, in 1955, not far from it, the St. Mark's Church for the young Protestant community.

coat of arms

Blazon

A golden oak above a silver corrugated shield base in red, on the right by a six-spoke silver wheel, on the left by a silver spade leaf.

Coat of arms history

Kleinostheim lies between the Main and Spessart, which is characteristic for oak forests. This is symbolized in the coat of arms by the oak. The base of the wave shield indicates the geographic location of the community between the Main and Spessart. Kleinostheim is a very old settlement with an agricultural history of more than 20 centuries, as indicated by the spade leaf in the coat of arms, which was found during excavations and dates from Celtic times . The wheel (" Mainzer Rad ") and the colors red and silver are taken from the coat of arms of the Electoral State of Mainz and are a reminder of the affiliation of the municipality to this state.

The coat of arms was awarded on June 5, 1975.
