Surname
Origin of name
The community of Mespelbrunn used to be called Neudorf , which occurs very often in the German-speaking area. The name consists of the Middle High German words niuwe , which means "new" and village . The place was divided into Ober - and Untereudorf . On August 1, 1938, the place was given the name of the nationally known moated castle Mespelbrunn , the district of which was added to the then municipality of Neudorf in 1842. The name of Mespelbrunn Castle goes back to the source ( mhd . Burn ) of the Krebsbach , which was probably surrounded by aspen (mhd. Espin ) or medlars . It was given the name Espinburn , which then passed on to the castle and later as Mespelbrunn to the community.
Earlier spellings
The earlier spellings from various historical maps and documents refer to Mespelbrunn Castle and previously to the water source.

history
Neudorf
Mespelbrunn used to be called Neudorf. On August 1, 1938, the community took over the name of the palace and the corridor Mespelbrunn.
The village was first mentioned in writing in a tax list in the middle of the 13th century as "nova villa" (Neudorf). The place probably goes back to hamlet-like extensions of the village Hessenthal on the east side of the Elsava, which were combined to form a new village.
Administrative history
In 1812 Mespelbrunn, at that time under the name Mairie Neudorf, with the Graflich von Ingelheim's castle and the hunter's house Mespelbrunn as well as a grand ducal forester's house with a total of 79 fireplaces and 637 inhabitants belonged to the Rothenbuch district fair of the Aschaffenburg department in the Grand Duchy of Frankfurt . Mair was Johann Maier. His adjuncts were Adam Rothaug and Johann Wohnalter. The school teacher's name was Georg Stein. The castle and the hunter's house also belonged to the Ingelheim patrimonial office of Unterhausen.
In 1814 Mespelbrunn came to the Kingdom of Bavaria, where it was in the district court of the older order Rothenbuch from October 1st. On July 1, 1862, the Aschaffenburg district office was formed from the older district courts of Aschaffenburg and Rothenbuch, and Neudorf was now located on the administrative area.
In 1939, as everywhere in the German Reich, the designation district was introduced. Mespelbrunn was now one of the 33 communities in the old district of Aschaffenburg . On July 1, 1972, this merged with the Alzenau district in Lower Franconia to form the new Aschaffenburg district.
Incorporations
The community was formed on July 1, 1972 through the merger of the former communities of Hessenthal and Mespelbrunn.
